Dark Doors Without Going Fully Black
Dark interior doors are for people who want depth and contrast but find pure black too stark. Charcoal, graphite, deep brown wood and dark tinted veneer all give the same effect: the door becomes a strong vertical line that anchors a light room. Making Dark Doors Work
- Check the light. A dark door in a north-facing hallway can feel heavy. Add glass or keep the walls light.
- Choose the trim deliberately. White casing frames a dark door; casing in the same colour or a concealed frame makes it a block of colour.
- Match the hardware. Black or bronze handles suit dark doors; chrome gives a sharper contrast.
- Use two colours. A door dark on the living side and light inside a bedroom gives you both.

Most dark doors are made in widths from 24" to 36" and heights of 80", 84" and 96". Dark paint and veneer look very different in daylight and under LED, so we recommend choosing from samples.
